The first task in this challenge was making the textballon of a comic’s vignette. Our group had two papers, so we made two texts. It wasn’t easy to find an interesting and funny sentence.
Finally we chose the following:
1. See guys; that’s what happens when you do drugs!
2. Wow! How did you do that?
The first one is quite negative and the last one is positive.
The second activity was interesting. We made a line and teacher made questions with two possible answers: Yes or No. If your answer was affirmative you had to take one step forward; and if your answer was negative you had to take one step backwards. So after 5 questions there was a lot of different positions: diversity. It’s interesting to make pupils aware of that phenomenon.
Another thing we did was the story with the pictures. We recieved 18 different pictures and we had to put them in the right order. Then we had to make up a story about it. After that we all stood in a line with one picture each. Everyone then took turns telling their part of the story first in English and then in his or her own language. I loved the idea and it was great and funny to hear the other languages. And it also made me realize that however we speak different languages it is possible to understand most of the story just by listenin and looking to the expressions!!
We can hang in the classroom a big poster of a globe. Then the children in the class draw their hand on a piece of paper and cut this shape out. Then the different hands can be put in a circle around the globe. Next the children take a picture of themselves or draw themselves on a piece of paper. They write also some important information about themselves below the picture. Then this can put on the globe, on the places where they come from. For example a child of Spain can put his picture with the belonging information on the country of Spain. This globe can be the beginning of an interesting conversation about cultural differences in the classroom.
We can also make an international cooking book with recepies of all over the world. Children ask their parents to write one typical recepi of their country/region of origine. Maybe the parents can even prepare this. The next day there can be a international food day in the class. Every kid can taste something of other cultures. At the end everybody gets a copy of all the recepies so that they can make it also back home.
You can also ask the kids of the class to make a short presentation of their culture, region, religion, country, etc. To make it more interesting they can bring music, traditional clothes, etc. to the classroom and talk about it. This way we can also hold a small exhibition.
In the physical eduction lessons you can also learn the kids some traditional dances from different countries. Maybe you can also ask a child to teach it to you and the other kids.
